A regional firm of insurance brokers with Microsoft Small Business Server used Microsoft Exchange as mail server for their 22 employees. For a number of years the company had used tape to backup both email and data. The tapes were stored in the MD’s office safe. When insurance brokers came under FSA supervision the financial director initiated a review of company policies including data backup. It was determined that given the new regulatory environment tape was no longer an appropriate backup methodology.
DataFort’s Managed Backup Service was a good solution to accommodate daily file backup, but handling the Exchange Server backup through the Deluxe onsite appliance /offsite service seemed overkill for a company of this size.
DataFort's
Managed Backup Service was brought online
to secure the company’s flat file data
coupled with a 25 seat OutlookFort Service
(£39.95 / month). Twenty two accounts
were setup to backup their own email data
and contacts, while a system user was setup
to backup all the shared folders and global
contact lists.
In the event of equipment failure or fire they were secure in the knowledge they could quickly restore individual mailboxes to standalone Outlook accounts while the full Exchange Server was being rebuilt; This allowed them to meet all regulatory requirements, ensuring smooth continuation of business in the event of a disaster.
